CodeGear offers a variety of licensing options beyond traditional single named user licenses. These licensing options provide additional flexibility and pricing models for companies and institutions that have larger numbers of users, want more control over managing their licenses, the ability to share licenses between users, or to embed CodeGear software in their products.
Networked Named Licenses
Networked Named User Licenses can be managed from a Network License Server. Each license is assigned to a named individual who can access their software license from across a network and the named user is guaranteed a license to use the software as and when they require. Networked Concurrent Licenses
A customer may buy a number of licenses that are not associated with a particular named individual, but associated with the number of developer seats that they would require to use at any one time. In this case, the product may be used only by as many concurrent users at any given moment in time as there are concurrent licenses under the license certificate and provided further that the product is only on computers or machines located in the territory and accessed only by users physically located in the territory.
Territories are broadly defined as...
- Americas – North and South America
- EMEA – Europe, Middle East and Africa
- APAC – Asia Pacific
Full country listing details can be found in the license.doc/license.txt/license.rtf files that accompany the products.
Concurrent user numbers are managed through a license server. Refer to the License Server FAQ for more details on license servers.
Multi-License Packs
For some products, CodeGear makes multi-license packs available. For CodeGear RAD Studio, C++Builder, Delphi and Delphi for PHP, these licenses are available in electronic format only and in multiples of five (5) and ten (10) user packs. Due to easier administration and for customer saving a built in discount mechanism is built in to the pricing of the multi-license packs. For more information on multi-license packs, please refer to CodeGear or your authorized reseller.
VAR/OEM Licensing
Some CodeGear products, such as the InterBase and Blackfish SQL databases, are well suited to embedding into other software products. This method of using the products has given rise to a special way of licensing the technology. In these products, it is often a requirement for the CodeGear technology to have a transparent or "invisible" installation to the developer’s customer. Value Added Reseller (VAR) agreements can be entered into, so that the developer can use slip files for the CodeGear product as part of their own software product installation. Contact your CodeGear representative for more details on VAR agreements.
Academic Licensing
Educational editions of many of CodeGear products are available for students and academic institutes. For students, purchase of these products may require that they provide confirmation from their faculty. Networked concurrent user licenses and educational site licenses are also available for classroom/lab use and campus wide use of CodeGear products.
